Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, speaking at the opening of the annual Boao Forum in China's Hainan Province, called on all Asian nations to work towards creating an open and transparent market that embraced greener development.

"No country can stay away from, or manage to meet on its own, severe challenges like the international financial crisis, climate change and energy and resources security,” Jinping told delegates, underscoring his appeal for Asian countries to work together.

He further called on the developed world to help transfer green technology to developing countries with older, heavy manufacturing based economies or inefficient power production infrastructure.

The annual three day forum is an event designed to promote unity and economic cooperation in the region.
